Federal Tuition Assistance Information
This page is intended to offer general guidance in requesting your military benefits. Specific questions related to your situation should be directed to your readiness NCO.
Be advised these procedures may be modified without notice. Guard members should contact their readiness NCO for specific application requirements.
You must apply for Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) 30 days prior to the first day of classes.
To apply, visit the Military Veterans Resource Center.
Do not submit paperwork to your unit!
If you need assistance determining the cost of your classes, please email the Student Billing Office at student-billing@iup.edu.
Please designate the subject of your email as "FTA Request Form 2171."
Be sure to include your name, Banner ID#, and the semester you are requesting.
After submitting this information through virtualarmory.com, email updates will be sent to your military AKO email account. Check your account for the latest info on your request. If you have not received an email regarding your request within two weeks of submission, contact your readiness NCO.
If you drop your classes or change your schedule, contact your readiness NCO.
Payments take approximately eight weeks for processing.
To check the status of your FTA funds, contact your readiness NCO.
After Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ receives your FTA funds, they will be credited to your Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ billing account. Please make sure you have a valid mailing address in , or please fill out a direct deposit form to have your refund automatically deposited into your bank account, or ask for one at the Student Billing counter.

To apply for EAP:
Contact your readiness NCO at your unit to check the deadlines for application.
Submit your application for EAP through your readiness NCO at your unit.
You will receive an offer from Pennsylvania State Grant informing you of your EAP award. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will also receive a copy of this offer. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will update your aid information to show this award. The maximum award given for any one semester is $3,858 (tuition) and $239 (technology fee) as determined by Pennsylvania State Grant and the Pennsylvania Department of Veteran's Affairs.

If you do not receive an offer, please contact your readiness NCO to check the status of your application.
After Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ receives your EAP funds, they will be credited to your Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ billing account. Please make sure you have a valid mailing address in to receive a paper check or complete your direct deposit information in MyÂé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, under the Student Services tab, Billing and Fees, then select Register for Direct Deposit to have your refund automatically deposited into your bank account.
In the current MyÂé¶¹ÊÓÆµ portal, my.iup.edu:
- Sign in to and click on Student Services.
- Click on Billing and Fees, then select Register for Direct Deposit.
In the new MyÂé¶¹ÊÓÆµ portal:
- Log in to MyÂé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Go to Discover and search for "refunds."
- On the Tuition, Aid, and Finances card, click on Registration for direct deposit of financial aid refunds, then select Accounts Payable Deposit.
